Gardening in our backyard is something we all enjoy! We spend time out by the garden each evening before or after dinner watering, harvesting and visiting with our growing plants! Jack is quick to remind us "it's time to check the garden!"
This year our raspberry plants just produced a few raspberries a day but Jack and Elisabeth loved that they got to run out and check for red ones each night and often come back with a little treat! We have since planted more bushes in hopes that next year we will have more.
At the end June Jack harvested the first few yellow squash and he was so excited about it! "Mama, Papa, this is the best EVER!!!"
This year in our garden beds we have tomatoes, yellow squash, green bell peppers, banana peppers, kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and rosemary. Up on our deck in planter boxes we also have more tomatoes (cherry tomatoes for The kids to munch on while they play outside!), kale, swish chard, basil, parsley and chives.
Joe spent many years working on a farm as a kid/teenager and so he is the garden manager but does such a great job teaching Jack how to care for the garden and assigns him jobs that Jack takes very seriously!
The first cherry tomato from Jacks own tomato plant!
His favorite job (second to eating the yummy vegetables we pick) is watering! He is really good at it too! Tonight I was inside making dinner and Jack knocks on the back door and asks "mama, can you please turn on the water I need to water the garden." I left him alone with the hose and the watering was done!
Gardening has become a summer family favorite. Each year the garden gets a little bigger and my ideas grow on how to expand it next year ;)
