Welcome Little Hens

After 4 years of owning our chicken coop and longing for chickens we finally took the plunge and got 6 hens a few weeks ago! We are just loving them!

We head out to the coop each morning to check their food and water and say hello and we spend some time outside visiting with them after dinner giving them the days scraps which they just love!

Tonight we all got soo excited when we opened up the coop and found our first egg!!

Elisabeth Jane 1.75

This little peanut is spunky, adventurous, sometimes stubborn, very cuddly and silly! She keeps us entertained and follows Jack around like a little duckling!

The kids love to play hide and seek and take turns counting and hiding! She takes the tasks given to her very seriously

She is a great sleeper and often when we lay her down at night she giggles and requests a high five before we leave her room. Just like Jack she sleeps with a blankie and loves to have her baby in bed with her.

We maxed out at a 1/2 inch of snow for the winter and Elisabeth thought it was pretty cool!

She loves supermen and batman ("manman and baman"), trains, baby dolls, cars and trucks, puzzles, any game with Jack, and playing outside!

She copies everything Jack does and won't even do some things until she's sure Jack will do it first (like drinking her water at dinner!) you can see her constantly looking out the corner of her eye to see what his next move will be - it's just the cutest. Jack kisses on her and loves on her any chance he can get and she just soaks it all up with a big smile on her face! Stop growing up so fast little baby girl!!

Jack Clemens 3.5

Jack is right around 3.5 right now and just a bundle of energy, creativity and excitement! He gets great joy out of learning, art, making up games, playing make believe, and running around outside (and recently climbing trees!) This age kid develops at what feels like rapid speed so it's just so fun to watch him learn new things, figure out the way things work, and speak like he's a teenager!

He's been shocking us with his artistic development! He takes coloring very seriously but works quickly and independently while creating his latest piece!

One day he was scribbling and the next he was shouting "look mama and papa I can stay in the lines!" He colored both of these pictures with such focus!

He has also learned to write his full name and I never want to forget the way he first did this!

His drawing is becoming more identifiable: a tree and a person

He drew Elisabeth complete with teeth, a bow tie, red hair and a dress and of course hair on her arms!

I just love him and could listen all day to the sweet games he creates! As I'm writing this I can here him playing house with Elisabeth (who he keeps calling baby Helene) and he is telling her where to sleep, when it's time for her bottle, he is singing songs to her, he is telling her she better listen to papa (him) and he is offering to go get her things to make her nap more comfortable :) The imagination of a child is just so beautiful!! Keep being super cool Jack Clemens!

Feeling Love in February

What a wonderful month! Between loving friends, Valentine's Day and my 30th birthday I think I constantly had fresh flowers on my table all month and that equals a whole lot of happiness!  The kids are in a sweet spot playing non stop with each other and putting together longer stretches of sibling play time without needing mom!

We've had lots of warm days this month which means lots of outdoor play!

Jacks ability to make up games and do imaginative play is growing and his latest favorites are playing house with Elisabeth and the 2 kids I babysit for. They get so into it. Setting up their house and their rooms and each playing a role in the family. Jack is almost always the papa and often has to care for a sick child. Watching them play house and the elaborate stories they come up with reminds me of my childhood!

This is the most and only snow we got this  year and Jack loves snow so he wanted to go straight outside and shovel!
