Pandemic update

Life has been so strange, interesting, devastating, enjoyable, confusing and all around just different. We have found ourselves still in the midst of this pandemic with growing numbers of Covid cases popping up everyday. Our country first shutdown March 15th (ish) and since then things started to open back up (beginning/mid June) and with that has come another, in fact much more intense, surge of cases. Just this week (much overdue) masks have become mandatory in our county. The whole thing is just confusing and frustrating. It’s hard to navigate what’s real and what’s political. It’s a time to be confident in what you feel is safe and right for everyone around you (even if others aren’t) and trying to make decisions for my family That I feel are safest. It’s a time where we may cancel trips and outings even when others don’t. It’s a time when you call a friend and you both sit on the phone deciding if it’s smart to see each other and weigh the risks. It’s a time when wherever you go it’s all people talk about. It’s a time when my daily outing is to run with a friend 6 feet apart and counting on that time alone with another adult. It’s a time of working from home. It’s a time of juggling the kids between my work from home meetings and joes work from home meetings. It’s a time when I get super excited for that once or twice a week when we get takeout just to shake things up! It’s a time for extra family time, extra snuggles, extra slow lifestyle, extra time with Joe, extra time to complete projects, and mostly gratitude for our health. It’s the perfect time to practice letting go of things you can’t control and practice making decisions that impact so many more people than just myself and my family. The silver lining is in the patience i’ve gained, the judgment I’ve learned to swallow, and confidence I’ve gained as a mother. It’s been full of challenging days mixed in with great days! Who knows how long it will go on...it could be awhile still. Focusing my energy on the rest of the summer, working to not get caught up in worrying about the school year (again, out of my control) and just taking it day by day.
